Sun Pleats is an accordian-style photography book that reflects upon a trip I took through Japan and notes on different cultural points throughout the trip. The accordian pages offer a changing documentary perspective on cities, neighborhoods, streets, and particularly coffeehouses, all of which constitute a majority of places visited.
The design and construction of the book allows for different reading experiences, including both right-to-left and left-to-right, that reflect the diverse perspectives present in each individual’s experiences with place, travel, and tourism. Depending on perspective, a viewer may see a combination of visuals, texts, and lens which obscure, augment, and interact.
